Still Here…

But not much to say right now. Feeling unbearably saddened by the tragic deaths of the two teenage step-daughters of a co-worker (whose wife is a former co-worker and the mother of the two girls from a former marriage). I can’t imagine the pain of losing one child at such a young age, much less two in one accident. 😦 I probably won’t post for another couple of days since tomorrow night I’ll be attending the visitation. Ugh…I haven’t attended a teenager’s funeral since my senior year of high school (for a dear freshman friend), and even though that was 13 years ago this is still too soon to have to do it again…

Please keep the families in your thoughts/prayers/etc.

Word from Uber Agent…

Thankfully, not a rejection. As the less paranoid side of me suspected, she has been swamped and hasn’t had a chance to finish it yet. She hopes to catch up on her reading over Thanksgiving. I will say another prayer or ten that she enjoys the rest of the book as much as she enjoyed the opening, and that it’s enough to get an offer!

But still trying not to get my hopes up TOO much. Yeah, like that’s so easy to do. 😉

Delicious Words…

Not much new to say since last night except I did, indeed, get in words this morning, and quite a few. Here’s the updated count.

Closing in on 60%. Riss (my Fury heroine) just survived another assassination attempt and now thinks she’s been cornered by 13 badass Harpies (who are anathema to Furies in my world) who will now beat her senseless or, even worse, make her one of them. But she’s about to find out that things are not always what they seem…

And that seems a good place to leave it for tonight or tomorrow. =)

Well over the 50% mark now, creeping up on 60%. Got in over 1k this morning, which isn’t bad at all. And I am starting to tie plot threads in together for the long, wild ride toward the plot’s conclusion. Hang on boys and girls, it’s going to get bumpy!

(And no, still no word from Uber Agent.)

Wow. Got a great count in this morning, despite the fact I didn’t get up quite as early as I should have for my morning session of writing. Re-read what I did yesterday, and liked it a lot better than I anticipated. I’m really having a ton of fun with this book, and this world, and that makes the words flow faster than expected. Now if I can just continue putting my butt in chair!!!

I got in just over 2,000 words, which is a pretty big morning count for me. I’m including the word count meter, as usual, but if it looks like a huge jump in percentage, it’s not quite that high. I’m changing the word goal from 90k to 80k, because I think I’m going to end up much closer to 80k. I also expect to add another 4-6k at least in revisions, because I already know I have some expanding to do. So I should end up right in my target range of 85-90k, which is where I usually aim to end up.

Anyway, on to the count…

Agent Follow-up…

I am posting this here in an effort to make myself actually, you know, DO IT tonight. It’s been…er…like 5 months since Uber Agent requested my full manuscript. I status queried something like…7ish weeks afterward (she said to give her 3, so I gave her plenty more since she was going through an agency move). Since it’s been an additional several months, and I notice she is again posting on LJ, I really DO need to status query her again tonight.

So, like, do it, okay? I’m talking to you, Self.

(Eventually I just started looking at the non-response as a rejection just to keep my sanity. No reason not to just make 100% sure, though!)

ETA: Status query sent. Kept it short, sweet, and to the point. Now I will try to forget it so as not to get my hopes up again!!! =)

Still Kicking…

Though I’m also still struggling to get in words on the weekend. What I really need to do is sit down first thing in the morning when I wake up, just like I do on (most) weekdays, and write at least a few pages right off the bat. Bam. Done. No need to feel guilty or anything for getting no writing done. Now if I can just implement that plan…

That said, I did manage just about exactly 1,000 words this morning. I wrapped up a pretty nifty ambush scene in an elevator heading to a penthouse suite–although I’ve thought of a few things I can add/polish to make it even niftier. But I’m going to wait to do that when the first draft is finished. For now, I just want to power through and finish, then handle the revising process all in one fell swoop, and be done with it (other than the inevitable further fiddling I often do while waiting on responses to queries). I write fairly clean first draft so usually only need one major revision stage, and then very small minor polishing as the mood strikes me.
