Wow, pretty nice writing night. I finished a crucial scene wherein my heroine learns vital information about her birth–and her mother’s death. That also closed chapter eleven, and set me up for an even more exciting chapter twelve. My total word count for the night is 2250, and my updated word count for Reborn in Fire is:
Yay! 42% done! More like 50 if RIF ends up closer to 80k than 90k total. Either way I am pleased. Things are coming along nicely. =)
Got around 1,000 words in an hour or so. Not too bad, all things considered. Coming up on the halfway mark, which pleases me. Should definitely hit it by the close of the weekend. The story is unfolding nicely and everything is coming along as planned. Yay!
Of course, since I just said that my characters will now toss a huge ole monkey wrench in the plot, but that would be fun, too. I love a good challenge! =)
Hee! Couldn’t resist the title (a wink and a nod to ‘s posts wherein she refers to writers’ works as their special little snowflakes). Sent my submission package off to this morning. Hope she doesn’t think me silly for sending it Priority Mail, but considering it costs about the same (and sometimes less) to send partials via Priority mail as it does via regular, I go Priority cause all I have to do is throw it in the provided envelope and slap a label on. Quick and easy! Now I will try not to obsess too much during the months it will take to hear something back regarding my special little snowflake. Er, I mean my submission package.
I got some words in over the weekend, but nowhere near 6k. Hoping to hit that halfway point _this_ weekend, instead. I’ll certainly give it the ole college try!
I’ve been lazy lately and haven’t updated. Quite naughty of me considering how spastic I get when the people on my friends list aren’t regularly updating. *grin* I’ve been busy with work, school, and baby of course, but that’s no excuse. The writing’s going well, though a bit slow on new words. I’ve been focusing mostly on polishing up the first three chapters and synopsis to send to . Got some great comments from , who co-writes books that edits, on the Absolute Write forums. I’ve also worked out where the manuscript needs to go from where I’m at, and a more concrete ending than I had in mind earlier. Hopefully filled with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting without invasions from aliens in Chapter 14. *snicker*
My mom is keeping the baby most of the weekend, so I’m hoping to get in some quality writing time since we won’t be busy with a million holiday chores like last weekend. I’d really love to hit the halfway point on Reborn in Fire, but we’ll see how it goes. I’m aiming for 80-90k total so it’s conceivable that I could hit 40-45k if I make a lot of headway.
Reading update: Read Gail Dayton’s The Barbed Rose and LOOOOOOOOVED IT just as much as I LOOOOOOOOOVED The Compass Rose. She’s SUCH a great writer, and I just love the society and magic system she set up. LOOOOOOOOOVE them. (Yes, I am being overly effusive, but it’s my lj. =) ) I’ve also read and loved Warsworn and most of Susan Kearney’s books for Tor Romance. May have mentioned that but I’m reiterating. Finally finished Sarah Zettel’s For Camelot’s Honor, which I was kinda lukewarm about. Her Lunas are all right, but nothing that really excite me. Can’t quite put my finger on it, since they’ve got a lot of elements of books I usually love. But it’s the first book in a long time that took me a month to read because I kept setting it aside to read other books I picked up and raced through…I usually don’t do that. Ah well.
Last night’s regularly scheduled writing time was interrupted by an unexpected trip to the St. Louis Cardinals’ brand spanking new Busch Stadium. My best friend invited me last minute to the game when another friend of hers backed out, leaving a ticket just for me. It was fun and a neat experience to be at one of the first few games in the new stadium, other than the fact where we were in the cheap seats you couldn’t see a flipping scoreboard (argh, hoping that’s gonna change when they finish the unfinished section across from where we were sitting). Not to mention the fact it cost 10 bucks for a smallish hot dog and a bottled water.
On the positive side I got a lot of walking in last night, and even more in at work today. I am now down about 7 pounds in the last couple of weeks. Feeling great about that because I had seriously stalled out before that. Amazing what working out regularly and eating well most of the time will accomplish!
I have decided to send off a paranormal romance submission package to soon. I polished up three chapters, a cover letter, and a 2-page synopsis and plan to get it in the mail in the next few days. Speaking of which, I stopped by Borders and bought Elizabeth Vaughn’s Warsworn on the way home from work. Oh, and also Gail Dayton’s The Barbed Rose. So excited to read these books since I LOVED the first books in both series.
Oh yes. In the past few days I have written probably 1000 words or so to end up with the 500 words of the 2-page synopsis I kept, plus tonight I wrote 1000 new words on the WIP. Yay!
What a lovely weekend! I got up early both days and went to the gym like a good girl. Saturday after the gym I took the baby shopping and he was an absolute angel. I managed to score several outfits for the gym, which were needed since I haven’t lost as much baby weight as I had hoped. That should change quickly now that I’m going to the gym 3-4 times a week and eating very well. At least I hope so! I also found the perfect patio set and my mother was kind enough to go back to the store later with her fiance and his truck to pick it up for us.
Speaking of which, I also met up with my mother at the area mall since she just happened to be in town so she could visit with the baby. It was quite a coincidence cause I had already planned to go by the mall and walk with him since it was too chilly to walk with him outside. Mom watched Zack while I got something for lunch since I was very hungry, and I was a good girl again and had Subway instead of Sonic. Go me! I also got about 1500ish words in. Go me again!
Sunday was quite relaxing. Shawn and I took the baby out to the backyard. Zack and I just laid in the sun (with sunscreen on of course) and took a little nap while Daddy put together our new patio set. We stayed out for a couple hours total and the baby had a blast. He just loves being outside. I wrote another 1500ish words when we went back inside. After a visit to the grocery store to stock up on healthy food, Shawn and I watched Stephen King’s Rose Red on cable. I had seen bits and pieces of it before but it made much more sense seeing all of it together. Hee.
My updated word count is now:
Here’s to steady (if slow) progress!
Wordalicious…not a word but it should be!
Last night was a nice writing night. I ended up with a total of 1500ish words, not too shabby for a weeknight if I do say so myself. I’m right around 115 pages now and going strong. Heroine and hero are investigating her past, which is going to ramp up the danger and conflict quite a lot. I haven’t killed her in several chapters so she may be overdue for another death. *halo*
Hey, she _is_ a Phoenix. That’s half the fun of making her my MC. It’s not every day you can kill your MC and not completely pi$$ off your readers. =)
Must hit the gym tonight but hopefully I’ll eke out another few pages afterward. Depends on how much the baby and I play when I get home.
