Energy…I Had That Once…

Oy. I love the little baby kicking up a storm in my belly fiercely, don’t get me wrong. But I’m really looking forward to a time when he’s not sucking up all my energy. Yeah, yeah, I know that sleepless nights once he arrives will continue affecting my energy level, but I still can’t wait to have the lack of energy be because of that and not just the massive amounts of hormones surging through my body. Granted, though, I am very grateful that the energy problem has so far been my largest and I have been blessed enough to NOT have to worry about “morning” sickness.

Saturday I didn’t get any writing in. Sunday, oh I had such high hopes for Sunday. I even went to the sandwich shop so as not to be distracted by the television and intended to get in a bunch of words. I wanted to at least finish the first scene and/or chapter of the new WIP. Ha. I got there and piddled around off and on, mostly off…Chatted at FM a lot…Wrote around 3 pages which is laughable considering I was there for almost 4 hours. Then husband picked me up and we went to see Serenity for the first time. {Pretty good movie, btw, though we haven’t watched the series yet.)

As frustrated as I am with this turn of events, I DID have a sore throat from Thursday to Saturday night and my energy level is low. I know I have to take care of baby and me first, worry about writing last. Hoping to get at least a few hundred words in each day this week, which will make me feel much better!

Pregnancy Stupids…

Gah. Just noticed that on the query letter I sent out to the agent requesting the first 3 chapters with the initial query I said I was enclosing the first 5 pages when actually I included the first 3 chapters. STUPID stupid mistake. I just hope that doesn’t count against me too much! I individualized another query letter for her, but obviously forgot to change the 5 pages to 3 chapters. I’m blaming it on the pregnancy hormones!

On the plus side, yesterday I actually managed 2 more pages in the WIP and today I started doing a scene by scene outline. Something I don’t usually do but decided to dabble with to see how it goes. So far I have the first 3 scenes outlined and am now on chapter 2, scene 1. Hey, it’s progress!

Re-jec-shee-on…

Wow, that was fast, though not really a surprise. I queried Levine Greenburg using their online submission form on 10/25 and received an emailed rejection today. Fastest response I’ve gotten so far. Still waiting on pins and needles for Ms. Nelson to finish looking at my partial and hopefully request the full. Also have my fingers crossed that Ms. Kriss might request the full manuscript since she accepts the first 3 chapters with the initial query. I haven’t heard anything from her yet and it’s been–wow, exactly a month today–so hopefully I may hear something within the next couple of weeks.

Other than that I’m just starting to expand my horizons looking for other agents to query in the future, since I strengthened the romantic elements of the manuscript (was marketing it mostly as urban fantasy initially but now feel it can serve well as a paranormal romance) and that means I can look for more agents that accept romance but may not accept fantasy. I still feel really positive about this book although, of course, I had wished for more nibbles before rejections. Ah well, I’m not giving up!

I meant to do some writing last night, but as usual lately was just too damned tired by the time I got home from work. I have class tonight so prolly won’t get many (if any) words in today, but hope to make up for it this weekend. It helps that I finally worked out the first page of the new WIP and am feeling more positive about diving into it now.

Queries and Words…

Prior WIP: Sent out three more queries today. Two were online queries submitted via the agencies’ online forms. I actually liked that format because you receive automatic confirmation that your submission was received. Excellent. I am also putting a snail query (query letter and synopsis) in the mail on my way out of work tonight. That will make a total of 6 queries outstanding, PLUS the partial that Kristin Nelson has for her review. Hopefully I can get at least another partial request out of this, and maybe a request for a full. Must remain positive!

Current WIP: I decided to rework the opening 2 paragraphs of the Phoenix book and put them in third person POV today. I also got another couple of paragraphs written and think that it’s working well. This will allow me to write things from the POV’s of the other 3 Elementals if I so choose. By the time I get a chapter or two into the WIP I should know whether or not this particular POV will work for the entire book. So far it’s feeling good.

Gonna try and get some more words in tonight, but I have to do some reading for Thursday night’s class first.

Happy Birthday…

to me…Husband made me lasagna last night, gave me a pretty pair of earrings, and took me out to breakfast and a movie today. He’s such a thoughtful sweetie. Also got a few birthday cards and phone calls from family. But alas, no news from any agents. Ah well, let’s assume no news is good news today! On the plus side we got the border for the nursery in and should be putting that up tomorrow.
